Touring artists face enormous and growing challenges. While huge acts and arena shows are doing well on the road, the vast majority of touring artists face seemingly insurmountable financial obstacles, and many performers have concluded that touring doesn’t make financial sense. In this environment, every cent counts and yet, for too many, there is a material source of revenue that they do not access: performance license revenue they earn from performing their own songs.
This session will have two components. First, one of the expert panelists will present the results of a recent analysis of performance royalties paid into the current PRO system, to illustrate the potential revenues from tours of varying sizes. Second, panelists will engage in a discussion of the current systems, outline new solutions, and offer perspectives on the potential for the stream of revenue to be a meaningful part of a touring artist’s income stream.
